Youth in Delta State have been enjoined to be law  abiding,eschew destructive tendencies,violence and other social vices which are inimical to the social economic development of the state.

The Commissioner for Youth Development,Hon Ilolo Oghenekaro made the call during the graduation ceremony of Entrepreneurship and skills Acquisition for Youth(ESAY), by integrity Vision, sponsored by Total E&P Nigeria Limited at Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area.

Hon. Ilolo who was represented by the Deputy Director of Youth Development in the Directorate of  youth Development, Mr Emmanuel Efe Emuakpeje stated that there was need for youths to embrace government intervention programmes such as skills acquisition training to enable them learn vocational skills of their choice and be a master of their own.

According to Hon Ilolo, ” Government cannot employ everybody. However, the hostile environment which is not conducive for investors did not help matters, as many companies,business  are not functioning optimally”.

He thanked Total E&P Nigeria Limited and Integrity Vision for their efforts in ensuring that the empowerment programme was a success,even as he called on other companies, and well meaning Deltans to assist the state Government in creating intervention programmes to empower the youths.

“The task to rebuilding our society and the protection of our democracy vis-à-vis our youths should not be left entirely in the hand of government alone”. Hon Ilolo stated.

He appealed to the beneficiaries of he training programme to use the opportunity given them to improve on their potentials and carve a living for themselves by making good use of the starter packs presented to them for positive development.

In his address, the General manager, Corporate Social Responsibility, Total E&P Nigeria Limited, Dr Charles Ngeribara said ” the era of White collar jobs is gone and it has become increasingly necessary to move from seeking office work to gainful self employment in ones chosen vocation”.

Saying ” this approach is sustainable and geared to wards reducing unemployment in the shortest possible time… We partner  with non-governmental organizations and other specialist agencies and companies in the realization of the company’s CSR objectives”.

The Ovie of Ughelli  kingdom, HRM (Dr) Wilson Ojakovo Oharisi III, who thanked integrity vision Ltd, the NGO that midwife the programme and Total E&P Nigeria Limited for the gesture of empowering youths in his kingdom, called on other companies to emulate what Integrity Visions Ltd and Total E&P had done.

HRM (Dr) Oharisi enjoined Total E&P Nigeria Ltd and other multinational companies to replicate the empowerment programme in all the communities in Ughelli so as to curb Youth restive as prevalent in the society today.

Earlier, the officer in charge of

Integrity visions Ltd, Mr David Olukayode revealed that 25 youths from Ughelli North graduated from the programme and were given starter packs, the very action include Fashion Design, Hair Dressing, Paint making and Makeover.

Present at the ceremony were the chairman, Ughelli North Local Government Area, represented by Comrade Ovo  Erhabor; the President General, Otovwodo Community, Ughelli, Prince Dr Victor Omoraka , the  manager, CSR methods, Total E & P  Nigeria Limited, Mr Emmanuel Ikomi among others.

Highpoint of the occasion was the giving if Certificates and Starter packs to the 25 beneficiaries.
